It’s located in the town of Cabeção, Municipality of Mora, next to the Gameiro Ecological Park, 120km from Lisbon. Composed of a series of aquariums and surrounding spaces, the Fluviarium allows for the observation of the different animal and vegetable species that live in rivers. This is managed through the exhibition of natural aquatic and land habitats along a path between the source and mouth of a river. Due to the Alentejo’s scorching sun and the necessity to create shade, the building was conceived with a protective cape of narrow prefabricated white porticos, evoking the profile of Alentejo’s traditional whitewashed barns. This equipment with approximately 200.000 visitors per year, allowed to increase Mora’s value through the creation of new jobs; contributing for a decrease in regional asymmetries and dynamizing local economy. ______________________________________________
