MORE DETAILS:
The Dragão Stadium is set within the Antas Plan, both developed by architect Manuel Salgado’s team.
The plan comprises great urban vision and programmatic rigour, managing to also introduce added value in the projectual expressiveness of the proposed buildings, namely Porto Football Club’s Stadium, the city’s main football team (one of the biggest in Europe).
This plan revealed the opportunity searched by the council to promote an urban renewal of an unqualified area of the city.
The stadium was a necessity for the Euro2004 that took place in Portugal. This widely covered event constituted an opportunity to regenerate the sports facilities of the countries main cities.
