The Contemporary Art Museum of Porto is integrated in the Serralves Estate, a property with gardens, forest and fields, situated in a noble area of the city, near the Boavista Avenue. The visit to the museum should be complemented with a visit to the farm and the Casa de Serralves, work of the architect Marques da Silva.
Throughout several years, Álvaro Siza proposed different projects, but only towards the end of the nineties was it possible to build the Museum.
The building has a main body from which derive, towards the south, two parallel buildings that form a courtyard between them, and towards north, an “L” shaped volume creates a second courtyard between itself and the central body. This courtyard frames the public’s main access to the building, which is made through an opening on the wall that surrounds the property.
Lunch or a coffee in Serralves’ Restaurant may be a unique experience. _______________________________________________
