The Church in Marco de Canaveses is the result of priest Nuno Higino dream to build a church with sensitivity and taste.
It is one of the most extraordinary sacred spaces, which far from being an enclosure, offers multiple readings to those who can capture the fundamentals between the different options made by Álvaro Siza: from the door, the baptistery, the nave, the presbytery, the altar, the ambo, the tabernacle, the cross, the curved interior wall, the horizontal breach, the north-west façade… in all, a magnificent religious monument.
The relation of strengths between modern art and sacred modern art, and the conciliation between abstraction and content resulted in expression of a new aesthetic identity that will contribute to the cultural renewal of this type of religious spaces.
