It is composed by seven levels and an area of 15,500m2, where three distinctive exhibition spaces live side by side. This equipment will allow the portuguese that cannot visit the Orient, discover the asiatic cultures. It will be a space capable of testifying the historical relations between Portugal and Asia, through collections that have the orient as main theme, in a historical, religious, anthropological and artistic view. The permanent exhibition comprises 1400 pieces allusive to the portuguese presence in Asia and 650 pieces belonging to the Kwok On collection. The design of the interior spaces is unusual, surprising the visitor. The museum is the responsibility of the Orient foundation, having been inaugurated in May 2008. It was classified as a “monument of Public Interest” (MIP) by IGESPAR in June of 2010. _______________________________________________
