MORE DETAILS:
Completed in 1994, the Tertiary School of Communication reveals itself as a surprising work, standing out by the sculptural affirmation of the volumes and the strength of the gesture that rests the building in the landscape.
The building essentially searches to define and protect a square from the highway the passes close by. That is the underlying idea of the project.
This equipment, of strong plastic expression and anchored in the landscape, confirms the architect’s inventive and affirmative capacity in the search for architectural purity.
Nominated in several editions for the Mies van der Rohe European Award, his work assumes in his DNA the heritage of the modern movement, always with a critical sence and without the dogmatism that has characterized it.
Carrilho da Graça belongs, by his own right, to the elite constituted by a small nucleus of internationally known Portuguese architects.
This work received the Secil Award (main Portuguese architectural award) in 1994.
