ARCHITECTURE: Eduardo Souto Moura _______________________________________________ ADDRESS: Avenida República, Cascais _______________________________________________ CITY: Cascais ______________________________________________ DATE: 2005-2009 _______________________________________________ VISIT: Inside - Outside _______________________________________________ MORE DETAILS: In 2006, Paula Rego chose Cascais as the place to build “her” House of Stories, a museum that will exhibit a significant set of her work as well as some of her husband’s, Victor Willing. The House of Stories, that the artist wishes to be a space that is “fun, unpretentious, alive, full of joy and much wickedness”, sets as its mission the knowledge and fruition of Paula Rego’s work and artistic connections. Searching to provide a service of cultural excellence, this new equipment enriches Cascais’ cultural and tourism services, and ambitions, due to the painter’s recognition, to become part of the international art circle and it’s public. The building has a careful setting, managing to maintain the trees of greater relevance through volumetric fragmentation. In programatical terms, it possesses around 750m2 of permanent and temporary exhibition areas, a cafeteria, a shop, a bookstore and an auditorium with a capacity for 200 seats. _______________________________________________
