It was always a museum of its time, evidentiating in its long journey interesting traces of modernization. In 1997 the building goes into works of rehabilitation and extension. The project was ambitious and daring by taking on the maritime vocation of the museum and the complete renovation. In 2002 the building is inaugurated, the result of a rigorous and forward thinking design by the architectural office ARX Portugal. This equipment is prepared to encounter new challenges that are placed upon museums after having worn out the traditional museological models. _______________________________________________

Sobre a obra...
O Museu Marítimo de Ílhavo foi inaugurado em 1937.
Foi sempre um Museu do seu tempo, evidenciando no seu longo percurso interessantes traços de modernidade.
Em 1997 o edifício entra em obras de reabilitação e ampliação.
O projecto era ambicioso e arrojado, assumindo a vocação marítima do Museu e a renovação completa.
Em 2002 é inaugurado o edifício, resultado de um trabalho rigoroso e vanguardista do atelier Arx Portugal.
Este equipamento está preparado para enfrentar os novos desafios que se colocam aos museus depois de se terem esgotado os modelos museológicos tradicionais.
