MORE DETAILS:
The plan of the University Campus of Aveiro defined the buildings perimeter, the height and the use of solid apparent bricks in the external walls.
Eduardo Souto Moura, with the irreverence that characterizes him, subverted the rules of the game and put aside the use of brick, opting for the use of glass façades protected by a brise-soleil made of horizontally placed marble slabs. The exception to this rule helps to enhance and not undermine it. It was on the basis of this argument that the architect imposed his building.
It resulted, without a doubt, in one of the Campus’ most interesting buildings.
