Thus, the unity of the whole was guaranteed through the use of apparent solid brick. The only exception to the rule was the Geoscience Department building by Eduardo Souto Moura. The buildings by Adalberto Dias, Joaquim Morais Oliveira and Vitor Figueiredo should also be noted. Adalberto Dias also designed the Student Residence. One of the most emblematic buildings, the University Library, was trusted upon Siza Vieira. In a later phase, Carrilho da Graça designed the pedestrian bridge that connects Polos I and II, and the brothers Aires Mateus the University Canteen in Polo II.
